Hello. We are “PUMB project“. The reading for “PUMB” is Pam.
In this page, we would like to introduce the purpose of our activities and what we would like to do in the future.
Ⅰ. Our concept and goal
First of all, our concept is “Fun and casual with me“. We are working to make Japanese culture more familiar and enjoyable to as many people as possible. Our goal is to convey the goodness and fun of Japanese culture not only to people overseas who are interested in Japanese culture, but also to young people in Japan. We also hope that the Japanese culture we introduce will enrich your everyday life, even if only a little.
Ⅱ. Origin of the name
PUMB is the initials of “Purple UMe Blooming”. This means that “the purple plums have bloomed”.
Ume(plum) derives from the fact that the original members are students of Tsuda University. We borrowed a letter from Umeko Tsuda, the founder of the university. In addition, the plum is expressed as “UMe” to include the meaning of “U(You) and Me”.
Purple’s kanji(紫) is usually pronounced as “murasaki” in Japanese and we can also read it as “yukari”. The sound of the word “yukari” has a meaning of relationship between people, and we express the meaning of “the relationship between U and Me”.
Blooming(咲), also means smile in Japanese. We choose the word because we hope the project will bring smiles to the people all over the world.
In this way, the project name, which means “the purple plums have bloomed”, contains the wish that “your smile will be born in the relationship between you and me”.
Ⅲ. Activity
Currently, it is difficult to do various activities due to COVID-19, but we would like to start little by little from what we can do with social media. We mainly use Instagram to introduce Japanese culture such as musical instruments and food, and to feature Japanese annual events according to the seasons. One of our recent activities was to introduce our members’ respective hometowns in light of the fact that we are now on spring break but cannot travel. Ⅳ. Future Activity
Finally, we introduce the activities we would like to do in the future.
First, once the situation with COVID-19, which is limiting our activities to a large extent, settles down, we would like to engage in various activities other than sending out information through social media. For example, we are thinking of holding events to promote Japanese culture, and creating and selling artworks that combine youth culture with Japanese traditional culture.
Second, we are thinking of other ways to interact with international students and create opportunities for intercultural exchange. There is a lot of information that can be obtained through social media, but there are also experiences that can be gained through actual experience, so we hope that face-to-face activities can be resumed.
As of April 12, we have 6 Tsuda University students with a desire to spread the beautiful culture of Japan to the world. If you are interested in our activities, please visit our social media. Your followings and likes will encourage our activities.
