The University of Tokyo

I’m a student at the University of Tokyo, which is often said to be the most difficult to enter.

Mainly, it has two campuses. One of them is located in Shibuya Ward while the other in Bunkyo Ward. Every year, about 3000 freshmen enters this university, and they learn a wide variety of courses for one and a half years, which includes both scientific fields and humanities fields, to make a solid foundation for each specialization. After these basic studies, finally they started to learn specialized fields from autumn semester of second year. For me, I am a student of Faculty of Engineering, learning mechanical engineering informatics.

We have a lot of opportunities to have a chat with international students in each campuses. For example, my soccer circle had a german boy, or in English writing course, we have a system to ask any questions on writing English reports.

On a weekday during a semester, I wake up at six a.m. I leave home around at seven, and I commute to my campus by train, which takes around 50 minutes. the first class begins at 8:30. After two classes in the morning, I have lunch, and I take two more classes in the afternoon. It is around five p.m. that I leave my campus. After I come home, I have dinner and start watching YouTube or TV programs or studying. I usually go to bed at 1 a.m. On several days in a week, I work part-time from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. or I do my circle’s activities such as soccer or magic. The truth is that my course’s work is very hard to deal with but I don’t always concentrate on those works. Of course, there are enthusiastic students who do all homework and review every class on that day. However, I like to study what I am interested in. These days I am studying about softwares and hardwares of computers to get a qualification. I live my days very happily, and I hope that everyone in this world feels like me including people who fight against COVID-19.
