1. Obtaining Enrollment Permissions
There are mainly three ways to go to a Japanese college.
Method A : You study at a Japanese language School in Japan, and then take an entrance examination of universities or technical schools.
Method B : You take an entrance examination in Japan. Then, you return to your country to wait the result. If you receive a message from your university saying you passed, then you return to Japan again.
Method C : You take an entrance examination called “EJU”, and then you get permission to come to Japan. This is called “Pre-arrival Admission”.
If you are going to enter Japan using method A or method C, you need to be admitted by a Japanese school.
If you plan to enter Japan using method B, you need to apply for a short-term visa. After taking an examination in Japan using the visa, and if you pass the examination, then follow the procedures detailed below.
2. Application for Certificate of Eligibility for a Status of Residence (COE)
Once you get an enrollment permission, you apply for Certificate of Eligibility for a Status of Residence (COE) at a regional immigration services bureau in Japan. This certificate is required for people who plans to stay Japan for a long period of time. Some schools do this procedure for you or you can ask your relatives living in Japan to do it.
It is said to take approximately more than one month to issue COE.
3. Application for Visa
Once the COE is issued, you should go to the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your country to apply for the visa.
What you should make sure before applying for the COE
1. Whether you received your enrollment admission or not
2. Whether you have evidence showing the ability to pay all expenses including such as tuition and living cost and so on.
